ProlleyNZ for sale

ProlleyNZ composite lleyn sheep for sale

Innovative sheep breading prolleyNZ new xealand based composite sheep for sale

Our New Zealand based sheep breeding solution

During the sale season, we will list our ProlleyNZ breeding sheep that are for sale.

Our ProlleyNZ are a new combination of the best of British maternal sheep, the Lleyn, with the best maternal sheep from New Zealand, the Tefrom. See our explainer video.

We are evaluating the ProlleyNZ with the Lleyn sheep on Signet Breeding Services’ Lleyn flock analysis. This will give us comparative figures to allow us to see the differences between the two sheep types. It will take quite a few years before the ebvs (estimated breeding values)  on the ProlleyNZ become accurate, especially on the more complex traits such as maternal ability and litter ebv.

We have gained an early indication from the 2020 data input, which has led us to believe that, in terms of growth rates and sexual maturity, the ProlleyNZ will surpass the Performancelleyns. Given the advantages that New Zealand sheep have in functional traits, it is looking very exciting.

Here is a video of our new ProlleyNZ ram lambs taken on 03/07/2020.

This new breeding solution for commercial sheep farmers will be available for the 2021 season.

The best of British sheep breeding combined with the best from New Zealand.

New Zealand sheep breeding certainly has a lot to offer the future of progressive breeding sheep here in the UK. It is worth considering a few key facts about New Zealand sheep breeding. Firstly, over the twenty-five years, from 1990 to 2015, lambs born per ewe increased by 0.4 over the whole New Zealand sheep flock.

At the same time, the average carcass weight increased from 14.3 kg to 18.3 kg. New Zealand sheep have achieved a faster rate of genetic sheep improvement than the UK over many decades. We aim to provide you with some of these gains in a package more suitable to UK sheep breeding.

We encourage any customer who can possibly come to the farm to select their ProlleyNZ sheep, to do so. It is crucial if you are looking to buy a ram/tup, as he is literally half your sheep flock. However, we recognise this may not always be possible. So, in 2021, we offer a ram delivery service. In addition to the Signet performance figures, we will supply stills and video (internet connectivity permitting) to allow for the best possible selection. See here for delivery details.

We will list here, in season, the ProlleyNZ sheep for sale. We will provide their UK numbers, along with their performance index score (at the time of listing, as these figures change with each computer run). If you click on the ear tag number you will link to Signetdata.com. Here you can see all the ebvs in bar chart form as well as the ram’s parentage. (You cannot see the performance figures directly for Innovis sheep or Sil recorded New Zealand sheep, bred in the UK.)

Out of season we will list a couple of historic ProlleyNZ rams we have sold, to enable you to see how the system works and familiarise yourself with the ebvs and how that Signetdata.com present them. We will also show a historical video of our ProlleyNZ rams for sale, that we will update to a current video in season.
